We've been sitting on this one for a while, but now it is official: Canada will host its first Gravel Championships in 2023 and it will take place at the Paris to Ancaster at the end of April. Registration for the event opens today.

"We are continuously working towards having the best offerings that we can feasibly deliver when building the national calendar of events in Canada," said Jolène Dupuis, Cycling Canada's Events and Officials Manager. "By working closely with our stakeholders, provincial and territorial partners and our dedicated organizers, we are excited to announce the new events, titles and overall updates that we have been able to make for 2023. We hope to continue to strive for more progress towards a diverse and competitive calendar in future years."

In response to the growth of gravel across the globe, Cycling Canada opened the bidding process earlier this year for the inaugural 2023 Canadian Gravel Championships. After reviewing competitive bids, the event has been awarded to the Paris to Ancaster Bike Race taking place on April 30.

Event co-founder Tim Farrar said to us, "When we approached the staff at Cycling Canada about a Gravel Nationals, they were thinking about it as well. When they said they didn't want Cycling Canada to be accused of "ruining gravel" and we said we didn't want to ruin 30 years of P2A either, it seemed like a good place to start. It is a privilege to be chosen as the inaugural Canadian Gravel Championship and we look forward to making the 2023 Gravel Nationals at Paris to Ancaster a must ride event for 2023."

The Championship event will be the longest version of the course, which will be quite similar to the 2022 course, and is expected to clock in at approximately 112 kilometres.

Registration can be found Here.
